1 Yellow Crookneck Squash
Grown by Growing Opportunities Farm Community Co-op.
Growing Opportunities aims to improve food security in Nanaimo by growing local food and teaching people the skills to grow food for themselves and the community. Through various community programs, there are opportunities for employment and volunteer positions for those with diverse abilities.
Nanaimo Foodshare Society has collaborated with Growing Opportunities Farm Community Co-op on urban farming initiatives since 2007.
Nanaimo Foodshare Society has two urban farming locations. The Five Acre Farm in Harewood is one of the last intact parcels of BC’s first planned agricultural community. Our second farm is a 2-acre plot at the 47-acre Cline Agri-Health Centre near Westwood Lake. Established in 1864, this is the oldest farm in the Nanaimo region.
We farm 2 sites in Nanaimo, non-profit cooperative working in partnership with Nanaimo Foodshare to produce veggies for the Good Food Box program. Surplus veggies offered for sale to the general public.
